Psychology, sentence reading and English as lingua franca.

Paid research participants needed during the University holidays

The School of Psychology is looking for people to take part in paid psychology experiments on campus over the summer.

If you will be in Leicester and will be interested in being contacted about available experiments then please email Vicky at vm88@le.ac.uk with your name and preferred contact details. Please feel free to pass this advert on to others who you think may be interested in taking part, even if they are not affiliated with the University (although please note that under 18s will not be able to take part for ethical reasons).

Over 65s needed for reading research

Individuals aged 65 or over are required for an eye tracking study investigating sentence reading

Researchers within the School of Psychology are looking for individuals aged 65 or over to take part in a study investigating how the eyes coordinate during reading. The experiment will involve reading a series of sentences and answering simple comprehension questions while your eye movements are monitored using an eye tracking device. Eye tracking is completely harmless and non-invasive, and simply involves a camera recording your eyes. You will also carry out a series of vision tests. The experiment has two parts, each lasting approximately 30-40 minutes, which need to be completed on different days. To compensate you for your time taken we will give you £6/hour.

For these studies we require individuals aged 65 or older, who have normal or corrected-to-normal vision and are free from any eye disorders (e.g. macular degeneration). Unfortunately bifocal lenses are unsuitable for eye tracking, but we usually don't experience difficulties with other types of glasses. You do not need to be computer literate to take part.

If you would like to take part, or you would like further information please call Vicky on 0116 229 7084 (office hours) or email vm88@le.ac.uk.

If you do not meet the study requirements yourself it would be greatly appreciated if you could pass this information onto any individuals you know who do. Any participants who meet the criteria outlined above would be very welcome, whether affiliated with the University or not.

Survey about using English as a lingua franca within European context

We are specialists in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching in the School of Education at the University of Leicester, UK. We are carrying out research into how people use English as an international language in European work contexts and ways to improve understanding and participation.

We invite native and non-native speakers of English (academics and post-graduates) to complete our short online survey.

All data collected will be treated confidentially and all final results will be anonymous and used only for research purposes. Your contribution is highly appreciated.
