Discovering Excellence staff awards
Held at our Stamford Court conference centre, the awards brought together members of staff from across the University to celebrate their peers and colleagues in a special event hosted by Leicester alumna Lukwesa Burak. Lukwesa, who has worked as a Journalist for Al Jazeera, Sky and the BBC said: "When I was first approached to help with the evening I was both touched and felt a great sense of pride to be invited to be part of this event. The University of Leicester is an outstanding educational institution - the men and women of this University truly do make it a centre of excellence.
"The huge steps its members are making in many, many fields have enormous impact not only on British life but across the world. It is with great pride that whenever the opportunity arises, I sing its praises loudly and declare that I am a Graduate of the University of Leicester."
The awards underline our commitment to celebrate and reward success, earlier this year, staff and students were asked to nominate those people and teams who have excelled in the past year. We received more than 200 nominations which is a fantastic total for the first year of the awards, and every single one of those nominees should be proud that their colleagues have recognised them.
Our panel of judges – which include representatives from across the University – looked at each of the award categories to find evidence of our VITAL values at work. VITAL goes to the heart of our successes as an institution. We value people, we are innovators, we work together, we hold ourselves accountable, and we are leaders.
You can read the winners' brochure now to find out more about all the finalists and read in depth stories with the winners. You can also see all the photos from a fantastic night of celebration. Over the next few weeks we will be profiling all the winners on these pages to set out the reasons for their success and find from them what it means to have won.
