Transformation and change

In September 2015 we outlined our vision for the future of the University in our new Strategic Plan.

Over the next few years, we will be undergoing many changes across the University and we wanted to use this part of the website to summarise some of the major projects and initiatives that will be happening.

Setting the context

Over the next few years we face huge challenges thanks to a changing higher education market, the need to increase income and reduce our expenditure. Visit the rationale for change page to find out more (log-in only) or read our Vision for Transformation on the ULT blog.

Discovery Strategies

The Discovery strategies cover ten key areas of work which will help us to achieve the aims we set out in our Strategic Plan. We will be adding summaries of the strategies and the full final versions as they become available in this area.

Research Institutes

We have created four new research institutes which aim to bring key areas of our research from across the University together. They are intended to build on our establish areas of strength in Precision Medicine, Structural and Chemical Biology, Space and Earth Observation Science and Cultural and Media Economies.

Improving our student experience

We are developing several projects to enhance the student experience, including the Student Lifecycle Change Programme, creation of a student services centre, curriculum transformation, Fabulous First Year, MyUoL student app, and Reflect lecture capture.

These initiatives will enhance the student experience through creating a sense of belonging and making it easier for students to access support. They also support the commitment to discovery led learning: putting student benefit at the heart of our decisions.

Departmental mergers and other changes

Part of the transformation of the University is looking at the size and shape of some of our departments. We will be tracking some of the key changes here.
