We have appointed a Director who will look after our partnership with the Dalian University of Technology.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Eric Hope from the Department of Chemistry has been appointed as the first Director and English Dean of the Leicester International Institute, Dalian University of Technology working alongside the Dalian University of Technology appointed Dean of the Institute. Within the University of Leicester Prof Hope has been conferred the internal title of Dean.

Earlier this year we announced that the partnership between the University of Leicester and Dalian University of Technology (DUT) had gained formal PRC Ministry of Education approval to establish the Leicester International Institute, Dalian University of Technology, through which students in China will have the chance to benefit from a University of Leicester education.

The Institute is part of our ambitious plans to increase international engagement with this top quality Chinese University and in the near future will allow UK students from Leicester to study in China. It also presents a unique opportunity to develop strong research collaboration with an outstanding Chinese institution.

Professor Hope has been leading the academic team across the Departments of Engineering, Mathematics and Chemistry to prepare for the first intake of around 180 students to the campus at Panjin next month.

Working closely with the Chinese Dean of the Institute, he will be in charge of teaching-related affairs for the new joint educational institute, as well as leading the provision of the Leicester delivery team and quality assurance of the degrees being taught there.

Prof Paul Monks (Head of College of Science and Engineering) said: “It is great that Eric has agreed to this role which is important to our aspirations to deliver high quality English language based teaching at the Chinese campus. He has shown to date clear vision, diplomacy and leadership. I look forward to meeting the first students starting in September.”
