The Charles Wilson Building’s Park Side will be dramatically enhanced over the coming weeks.

As part of the modernisation of our campus, the Charles Wilson Building’s First Floor Park Side is currently closed for refurbishment. The City Side restaurant will remain open to visitors, post-graduates and staff throughout the Park Side’s closure.

From Saturday 23 September 2017, the Park Side of the Charles Wilson Building’s first floor will reopen as The Graduate Lounge which will dramatically enhance the University’s catering and social options for staff and postgraduates. The Graduate Lounge will provide extra seats and social space which will be open all day. The new facility will also provide bookable meeting spaces with free coffee, an expanded coffee shop and a private dining facility.

One of the most iconic buildings on Leicester’s skyline, the Charles Wilson Building was designed by Sir Denys Lasdun whose other works include the Lasdun Block in Oadby Student Village and The National Theatre on London’s Southbank. The building is named after the University’s first Vice-Chancellor and was built to accommodate the institution’s flourishing student numbers in the 1960s.

As the University continues to grow, the Charles Wilson Building’s ongoing redevolopment will ensure that the unique structure remains an integral part of our evolving campus.
