Universities Week: 30 April – 7 May 2012

Universities Week 2012 is the third annual national campaign of its kind and this year will incorporate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as its overarching theme. Here is how staff across the University can be involved:

The campaign is being coordinated by Universities UK and British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS), the national governing body for higher education sport in the UK. It is supported by universities across the UK and a wide range of organisations including the NUS, Research Councils UK, HEFCE and many more. The week will culminate in the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships, which will be held in the Olympic Stadium.

The campaign will recognise and celebrate the contribution that universities make (and have always made) to the Olympic movement and to the UK. It aims to demonstrate how universities underpin the future growth and success of the UK, and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are a great way to showcase this. The campaign also seeks to demonstrate how the expertise and talent found in universities make important contributions to our communities, which bring benefits for everyone – not just those who are university students or graduates.

Three easy ways to get involved

  1. Submit related events for promotion on the Universities Week website.
Update the Marketing team with any sporting or cultural Olympic-related events (that take place pre/post or during the Games). Event details will be upload to the Universities Week website and promoted to the media.
  2. Add Universities Week to your email signature during the week:
Universities Week 2012 runs from 30 April–7 May and the University of Leicester will be taking part. Find out more at www.universitiesweek.org.uk'
  3. Reference your support for the campaign on your website, and on social media.
Please consider promoting Universities Week in social media. Those who like to tweet can use the #uniweek hashtag during the week to show their support.
