Advice for Festival Judges
The Festival of Postgraduate Research is where the University showcases the best of its postgraduate researchers.
These pages are designed for those who are acting as Judges at the 2012 Festival. Separate advice is available for postgraduate researchers who are taking part and for visitors and other Festival guests.
Festival Programme
This year's Festival takes place Thursday 17th May.
The full Festival programme is available online. Judges are required to be present from 10:00 - however, all Judges are invited to a networking breakfast, hosted by the Enterprise and Business Development Office, from 09:00.
The Festival closes at around 15:00.
Venue and Travel
The Festival and all associated events (networking breakfast/lunch and the prize giving ceremony) will take place in the Charles Wilson Building on the main University campus. On arrival in the Charles Wilson Building, please follow the signs for the Judges' Briefing.
Please note that there is very little car parking on the main campus - however, the University is only a fifteen minute walk from Leicester train station. Directions to the University, further travel advice, and campus maps are all available online.
Judges Role
Festival Judges will be allocated around six Festival presenters whose work they will assess. For each presenter Judges have a score sheet and scores are given for both the design and content of the poster and the presenter's ability to answer questions on their work.
All posters on display at the Festival have been prepared for a non-specialist audience and Judges should not need any specialist knowledge to assess any of the entries.
Judges are asked to return their scoring sheets promptly. If time permits, Judges who have seen all their allocated posters are welcome to speak to any other Festival presenters.
Refreshments
Tea and coffee will be available throughout the morning in the main Festival presentation space. All judges are then invited to a networking lunch, hosted by the Graduate School, followed by the keynote speech and prize giving ceremony.
