I recently wrote a blog post for BDRA listing a selection of education-related places in Second Life.

The list was created for another purpose and posted almost as an afterthought, yet it's proved very popular. It seems that many people share the problem of where to find relevant places in a virtual world used by millions of people for thousands of different purposes. It's something that needs addressing if virtual worlds are to become part of mainstream education. That may seem a long way off, but SWIFT and other such projects are showing that virtual worlds can be used in an educational context, and we are in the process of assembling evidence to quantify its effectiveness.
