The Colleges-University of Leicester Network (CULN) and EMFEC, as co-chairs of the FE working group, are undertaking a survey of ESD activity across the East Midlands on behalf of the LSC.  This activity will form the first of the FE working group who have advised on the content of the survey.

The survey aims to support education for sustainable development activity across the 28 FE Colleges within the East Midlands.

Aim:

Review the sustainable development activity, needs and interests of regional FE Colleges

Objectives:

• Identify key contacts and (where possible) SD ‘Champions’ within Colleges;
• Assess institutional interest in education for sustainable development in terms of campus, curriculum and community, the LSC policy (From Here to Sustainability) and new sustainable building plans.
• Identify the current and future plans of Colleges in this area/policy context;
• Identify the staff training, capacity building and support needs of Colleges in taking forward sustainable development.

Following the survey stage, a series of follow up telephone/face-to-face interviews are planned with those Colleges expressing an interest in taking forward sustainable development activities.

Initial findings of the survey will be available from July 2007.
