A collaboration between the University of Leicester and Northamptonshire Police, the CSI:Leicester summer school offers students the opportunity to not only study a range of topics around criminal justice but also to assume the role of a forensic scientist and solve a (simulated) crime.
Teaching and trips
Teaching is a mixture of classroom and laboratory work with plenty of hands-on activities and there are field trips to police departments and a crime lab. The course tutors have a wealth of experience and knowledge in diverse relevant fields including forensic science, chemistry, criminology, forensic psychology, law and criminal justice.
All classes and laboratory activities take place at the University of Leicester and accommodation is provided in the University's halls of residence. Organised field trips and sightseeing excursions are included in the course.
Who is it for?
The CSI:Leicester summer school is aimed at students from any country who are considering careers in law enforcement, criminal law, security, forensics or any other part of the criminal justice system. You will need to be reasonably fluent in English but no scientific expertise or background is required.
Pricing and registration
The 2012 CSI:Leicester course costs £1,950, which includes:
- tuition
- accommodation at the University of Leicester for the duration of the course (self-catering)
- all course-related materials and field trips.
NB. Flights to the UK are not included in the price, and are the responsibility of the student.
There is a non-residential option available, charged at £1,600, which includes the same as above minus the accommodation.
