Results from Trench 16
In Trench 16 on the south side of the site, part of a substantial Late Roman building was revealed. The pictures below show the walls and floor layers being excavated. A real suprise was discovering a human burial within the line of the robbed wall of the building, buried after the building had gone out of use (further analysis is needed to clarify its date, but it may well be 5th century). The walls may well have been robbed to help build the road found in Trench 10.

The well preserved skeleton emerges, its head / skull lies on a stone 'pillow'.

The burial being excavated.
