The Leicester Cancer Research Centre takes advantage of first class facilities provided by the centralised Core Biotechnology Services (CBS) within the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology. CBS brings together the management of existing goods and services to give researchers the tools they need to undertake world-class research.
Of particular relevance to the Cancer Centre are the following highly specialised CBS facilities:
- The Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Hub (BBASH)
- Leicester Imaging Technologies (LITE)
- Protein and DNA Facility (PNACL)
Leicester also hosts excellent infrastructure and facilities for in vivo research and structural biology. In vivo research has benefited from the recent investment of ~£17M in a dedicated new facility, named the Central Research Facility. Structural Biology facilities are hosted within the Henry Wellcome Laboratories of Structural Biology located within the Department of Biochemistry.
The Centre also benefits from having its own dedicated Bioinformatics Service, where bioinformaticians work alongside researchers to analyse and interpret data from high throughput technologies to understand the molecular mechanisms of cancer and develop novel targeted therapeutics and diagnostic tools.
