Jo Wood is Assistant Registrar in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. Her administrative responsibilities include: research and development activities; committee work; and staff and office management in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. She has just produced a book with Robert Burgess for the University’s 50th Anniversary entitled Reflections of the University of Leicester.
She was born in Market Harborough and educated at Welland Park College and the Robert Smyth Upper School. She engaged in secretarial training at the Kathy Parker Training Centre in Leicester where she was awarded the title ‘Student of the Year’, based on excellent performance. Subsequently, she studied on a part-time basis at Wigston College, where she was awarded the LCCI Private and Executive Secretary’s Diploma and the CIPD Certificate in Personnel Practice, for which she was awarded the title ‘Personnel and Management Student of the Year’. She has also recently undertaken MA studies in The Country House: Art, History and Literature at the University of Leicester.
After leaving college, she worked as a Secretary at London and Scottish Marine Oil in the City of London before taking senior positions as Personal Assistant to the Principal of the Kathy Parker Training Centre, the Head of the Department of Botany at the University of Leicester and the Chief Probation Officer of Leicestershire. In 1994 she became Personal Assistant to the Headmaster of Oakham School and, over a period of ten years, took on a range of roles including Secretarial Co-ordinator, School Office Manager and Marketing Manager. In 2004 she was appointed Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, promoted to Administrative Officer (Special Projects) in 2006 and to her current role in 2008.
