Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in Higher Education
The Programme is designed to meet the needs of HE Lecturers at the University of Leicester and beyond. The needs and aspirations of staff working in a research-intensive institution are addressed through the programme’s theoretical input and the several components relating to academic practice.
This course addresses contextual and professional issues that are essential in order to enhance the University’s position as ‘a leading research and teaching institution, cultivating the synergy between research and teaching’, for the benefits of both students and staff. The notion of student diversity, which is high on the Leicester agenda, is also fully embraced in this programme.
The Programme's Aims are to:-
- Be able to approach the task of facilitating learning and assessment competently in ways apt to the programmes they teach, using appropriate and varied methods and tools;
- Be conversant with theoretical principles underpinning learning, teaching and assessment;
- Be able to design and implement curricula responsive to student needs and requirements, HE policies and institutional ethos and needs;
- Have demonstrated their ability to apply their disciplinary knowledge and skills to meet the learning needs of students;
- Be able to articulate and operationalise appropriate professional and ethical values that promote effective and supportive learning, research and administrative environments;
- Be able to adopt a reflective approach to their personal and professional practice and development, including planning for their continuing professional development.
