The Academic Practice Unit (Staff Development Partnership) offer a variety of workshops, training and information events to meet the needs of research staff, building on the recommendations of the Roberts' Review and the University's Training and Development Working Group.

Training and development opportunities

The Academic Practice Unit offers a wide variety of workshops and development events to enhance the research skills of Leicester researchers.  The Skills for the Professional Researcher  programme comprises a wide range of skills training for research staff and PhD students.

Newsletter

The Academic Practice Unit prepares a Research Staff Newsletter, which is circulated monthly to research staff across the University.

Funding

There are funding sources available within the University for research staff development activities, including the Research Training Innovation Fund (Roberts' money).

The Staff Development Partnership manages a number of funding initiatives for staff training and development.

Accredited programmes

We offer two Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) Awards.  The Enhancing Research Practice award offers participants the opportunity to identify, review and plan their continued professional development, to develop 'generic' research skills and understanding, as well as specialise in a specific area from a choice of pathways.  The second award - Developing Global Approaches to Practice encourages all staff (not just researchers) to engage with Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). 

Tailored provision

The Academic Practice Unit can create bespoke programmes of training for individual departments, groups or teams (large or small) according to their particular needs.
