Appraisal Scheme
The University's Staff Development and Appraisal Scheme was agreed by Council in March 2002, and appraisals are to be conducted on an annual basis. Heads of Departments are required to complete appraisals by 31 July each year.
Appraisal
Before conducting an appraisal interview staff must complete the online appraisal training resource.
We recommend that appraisers also attend the Appraisal Skills Workshop, or access 'How Are You Doing? Skills for Effective Staff Reviews' and click on the Individual Learners Guide.
Appraisal Online Resource
The Appraisal Online Resource is accessed via the Blackboard VLE. The learning outcomes for which are to:
- Explain the University of Leicester Appraisal Scheme
- Complete the paperwork required by the scheme
- Identify the benefits of the University's Appraisal Scheme
- Structure an effective appraisal interview
- Write a SMART Objective
Appraisal Skills Workshop
When you have worked through the on-line resource, we recommend that you attend the face to face Appraisal Skills Workshop. This is a half-day event which will enable you to practice the interpersonal skills needed to conduct an effective performance appraisal.
'How Are You Doing? Skills for Effective Staff Reviews' is a resource developed at the University of Leicester and funded as a small development project by the Leadership Foundation. It contains video clips and resources for people who will be conducting an appraisal.
Supplimentary Resource
We also provide an online presentation for staff in preparation of their appraisal interview, to help them get the most from their appraisal. This presentation lasts for approximately 10 minutes and can be accessed by clicking on this link 'Getting the Most from Your Appraisal'.
