Funding for Teaching Enhancement Projects

Introduction

The University's Student Experience Enhancement Group (SEEG) has secured funding to provide two streams of project funding for teaching enhancement activities.  Stream A will provide funding of up to £15,000 per project to encourage pedagogic research on strategic developments in learning and teaching.  Projects which harmonise with strategic themes identified by the Student Experience Enhancement Group (SEEG) will be particularly welcome.  Stream B will provide amounts of between £2,000 and £3,000 for projects which develop new activities and strategies for learning, teaching and assessment within a department or college.

There are normally two submission dates a year for applications (autumn and spring). The next deadline date is: Monday 1 October(2012)

Guidelines

Stream A: Encouraging pedadogic research on strategic developments

Applications for Stream A funding are invited for projects which:

  1. Involve the application and development of pedagogical theory and practice and/or
  2. Address strategic themes identified by SEEG.  These are currently:
        1. Improving assessment and feedback

Stream B: Supporting new learning, teaching and assessment activities

Stream B funding will provide opportunities for ‘pump-priming’ or developmental activities which enhance learning, teaching and assessment and support the University’s Learning and Teaching Strategy.  These initiatives can address themes local to a department or college and focus on a specific aspect which leads to concrete and practical outcomes.  Projects could include:

    • Innovation in teaching and assessment practice (under this heading the nature of the impact on the student experience should be outlined);
    • Developing new and innovative teaching and learning resources (but not solely for the purchase of equipment or resources);
    • Developing students’ learning or transferable skills;
    • Engaging in small scale research and evaluation projects relating to curriculum development.

See Guidelines for Stream B for further details.
