This course will explore the practical aspects of conducting focus groups for research. It will also consider ethical implications and safeguards.

  • Recognise the benefits and limitations of focus groups
  • Appreciate ethical considerations in running focus groups
  • Make practical preparations to carry out focus groups
  • Practice techniques for facilitating a focus group effectively.

Early career researchers (including postdoctoral researchers and, where places are still available, doctoral candidates)

Participant preparation needed?

Come prepared to share your experiences, if any, of running, or helping to run, focus groups, and bring examples of materials you have used.
