Course Overview

 

This workshop shows you how to fully exploit NVivo 9 in your research project.

(This course forms part of the Skills for the Professional Researcher Programme).

What will I get out of this session? 

You will be able to more fully exploit NVivo9 in your own research or advise others on the use of more advanced NVivo 9 techniques. Topics covered will depend on a pre-course questionnaire but are like to include topics from the following:

  • Querying
  • Visualisation
  • Classifying data
  • Framework summaries
  • Code tree design
  • Different types of data and autocoding
  • Merging projects
Who is it for?
  • Researchers who are using NVivo (e.g. second year PhD students)
  • Those supervising researchers using NVivo.
Participant preparation needed?

Participants should have already used NVivo to create a research project and completed some coding.

Additional Information

The practical sessions can be based on your own data or be based on sample data.

What prior experience do I need?

Some familiarity with NVivo such as covered on ‘Introducing NVivo 9. Similar experience in earlier versions of NVivo is acceptable. A basic understanding of qualitative research is recommended.

Is it formally assessed?

No.

Clare Tagg has a qualitative PhD in human aspects of software development and has been teaching researchers how to use software in qualitative research for 15 years.
