Course Overview

 

This workshop provides a practical introduction to NVivo 9.

(This course forms part of the Skills for the Professional Researcher Programme).

What will I get out of this session? 

You will understand the basic steps needed to use NVivo 9 on a qualitative research project. You can expect to work through a practical example of using NVivo 9 on a qualitative research project including:

  • Importing data and annotation
  • Developing a coding tree
  • Coding strategies
  • Creating a memo
  • Simple queries
  • Simple visualisations
  • Backup, recovery and security
Who is it for?
  • Researchers who are considering using NVivo (e.g. first year Phd students, those writing research proposals).
  • Those supervising researchers using NVivo;
  • Researchers starting to use NVivo who have no prior knowledge of it.

What prior experience do I need?

A basic understanding of qualitative research is recommended.

Dr Clare Tagg (Tagg Oram Partnership)

Clare Tagg has a qualitative PhD in human aspects of software development and has been teaching researchers how to use software in qualitative research for 15 years.
