Having created a database you will want to retrieve your data using a variety of querying techniques.  This course will begin with the basics of creating a simple query and take you through the steps needed to refine your queries with different criteria and querying across multiple tables.

What can I expect to cover? 

You will learn how to create and amend queries which extract data from one or several tables.  You will add criteria to query between dates and numeric ranges or search for more than one text criteria.  You will create queries which prompt you to enter criteria.  You will learn how to sort the results and how to use queries to calculate on fields or create new fields and tables.

What will I get out of this course? 
The most useful aspects of the session were Querying Techniques and Parameter Queries.  I can already see areas in which I will be able to use both of the above in my database."

  • Use a wide range of querying techniques to select relevant data from your database
  • Create queries using parameters to prompt for criteria
  • Use queries to calculate results
  • Use aggregation queries to calculate totals
  • Use action queries
Who is it for?

All staff.  This course is aimed at those familiar with the concepts of Access Databases and some previous experience of using and creating a database.  It would be useful for delegates to have an idea for a database that they wish to create following the course.

Participant preparation needed?

You need to be familiar with the concepts of access databases and have some previous experience of using a database.

What prior experience do I need?

Before attending: Delegates must have attended the course Introduction to Using an Access Database and Creating an Access Database or already have knowledge of:

  • Navigating and formatting tables
  • Creating and using reports
  • Designing a relational and lookup database
  • Creating tables and data types
  • Creating relationships between tables
  • Creating and editing forms
