Would you like a gentle introduction to databases by exploring one that’s already been created for you? Do you want to get more out of an existing Access Database? This course will guide you through the aspects of a database introducing the terminology and database principles before allowing you to explore ways to amend and extract the information you need, presenting it in a readable format. |

| What can I expect to cover? |
Using an existing database you will learn how to add and amend records. You will find out how to organise your data by sorting and filtering it. You will learn how to create a simple query to find the information you need. You will utilise the report feature to present your data. This course is suitable for those who want to see what’s possible with a database before moving onto the next stage of designing and creating your own and also those who work with existing Access databases created by others. This course does not cover the creation of new databases. |

I had never used Access before today. The course has taught me the basics about how to use an Access database and I am now familiar with the terminology used when working with databases. It has also got me thinking about how I could use it in my work."

| Who is it for? |
Suitable for all staff This is an introductory course aimed at those with no prior experience of using Microsoft Access, or for those with some familiarity with entering and viewing data within Access. |
| Participant preparation needed? |
You do not need to have any previous experience of using Access or any other database management program. However, it is assumed that you have knowledge of personal computer basics, a reasonable degree of keyboard and mouse proficiency and some experience using other Microsoft Office applications such as Word or Excel. |
