Course Overview

This is a short course for University staff which includes practical exercises and group participation. The course provides practical knowledge of the principles of safer handling, enabling staff to move objects safely, avoid injury and be able to carry out basic manual handling risk assessments.

  • The human spine
  • Injuries caused by manual handling
  • Plan and Prepare Approach – Principles of safer handling
  • Risk assessment – TILE
  • Correct technique and posture
  • Practical activities
What will I get out of this course? 

Learning Outcomes: To equip staff with knowledge and understanding.

Who is it for?

Suitable for all staff, but may be particular useful for Portering and Cleaning (PACS) and Residential and Commercial Services (RACS) staff.

Participant preparation needed?

Please wear flat shoes and loose fitting clothes which allow for movement.
