Academic

  • LAB-Coat
  • First year does count!
  • Get to know 2nd years on your course
  • Do well in the coursework, practical reports
  • Ask you practical demonstrators for help
  • Make an effort to keep in regular contact with your personal tutor
  • Don’t leave everything until the last minute
  • Make the most of first year
  • Have some emergency contact numbers
  • Learn time management (important skill for 2nd year)
  • Check e-mail ALL THE TIME!!!
  • Ask for assistance at Careers Service in the Library
  • Make most of timetable gaps in Uni

Housing

Health & Wellbeing

  • Sports Card - gym, where? Sports available?  Other local facilities
  • Timetable of all sports clubs with days and times
  • Don’t stay out late when you have a 9AM lecture
  • Don’t overdo it on socials in Freshers/before labs or lectures
  • Stay well hydrated during Freshers Week

Finances

  • Budgeting: Clothing, Food
  • Insurance: for parents and students
  • If at uni all day, bring lunch to save money
  • There are lots of jobs, e.g. Ambassador – easy money!
  • Be realistic with your budget
