Students from certain countries who are at least 16 years old and have a visa for more than 6 months need to register with the Police. You should check the stamp in your passport to see whether you need  to register.  If you need to register, your student visa sticker will say something like: "No Recourse to public funds -  Work (and any changes) must be authorised.  Police Registration within 7 days of Arrival."

How do I register?

START OF ACADEMIC YEAR

At the beginning of the academic year (October) the Police come to the University and will be able to register you here, or to change your address.

To register with the Police at the University you need to book an appointment, you can do this by visiting the Student Welfare Reception.  Places will be limited.

The requirement that you register with the Police within seven days of arrival can be ignored once you have reserved an appointment to register with the Police at the University.

The Police advise you not to go to the Police Station to register during October as the Nationality Officers are at the three Leicestershire Universities and dealing with administration during this time.

From the end of October students are asked to e-mail the Nationality Department on nationality@leicestershire.pnn.police.uk

The Nationality Department will respond with an email advising their opening hours.
