FUNDING YOUR CONTINUING STUDIES

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR FULL-TIME UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

HOME (UK and EU FEE STATUS ONLY)

2011/2012 ACADEMIC YEAR

Do you wish to apply for a Tuition Fee Loan to pay for your fees?

If eligible, do you also want to apply for a Maintenance Loan/Grant/University Bursary for living costs (UK fee status students only)?

If you require either type of funding you need to complete the application for the 2011/12 academic year AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you haven't already done so.  You can do this from 14th February 2010 at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance. If your application is late then your funds will almost certainly be late too which can have serious consequences (e.g. you will experience problems when trying to register in September if your fee loan is late).

Finance Advisers in the Student Welfare Service can advise if you have any queries – Contact Us for email advice or to make an appointment.

2011/12 FEES: £3,375

(Full-time, campus-based undergraduate courses)

For further information on the application process follow the link below that matches your circumstances:

UK Students - Studying at Leicester

The form that you need to complete is called the PR1.  If you haven’t already completed it you can do it online by logging into your account:

www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

If you are not from England, follow the links for applying to Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales under the heading ‘Not from England?’.

If you need your parent(s)/partner to complete a section you should try and ensure they do so ASAP.  Financial assessments of parent/partner income will be based on the 2009/2010 tax year NOT the 2010/2011 tax year.  If they are able to provide their National Insurance number they may not be required to provide documentary evidence of their income, but should keep the documents in case they are requested at a later stage.

EU Students

The EU Assessment Team will normally send you an application form with most sections completed for you – you will have very little to do, just check and sign it.  For most of you the form will be sent to your home address.  Please ask your family to send it to you so that you can return it to Student Finance England as soon as possible.  Most of you will only be entitled to the tuition fee loan but if it is delayed you will face problems, including long queues, before you can register in September.

If you haven’t received the form you can print it off and complete it in full:

www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

The form you need to print is the EUPR1 and can be found under ‘Forms and Guides 2011/2012.

Fees

Students who started from 1st September 2006 onwards, and did not defer entry from 2005:

    • campus-based, undergraduate course fees will be £3,375

Students who started before 1st September 2006, or who deferred entry from 2005

    •  campus-based, undergraduate course fees will be £1,345

Medicine Students

If you will be entering an NHS-funded year (years two, three and four of the graduate entry programme or year five [AND year six if you intercalated] of the five-year programme) then you will need to complete the NHS application for fees and consideration of a means-tested living cost bursary if you are from England and Wales (and for fees only if you are a non-UK EU student).  Students from Scotland and Northern Ireland should apply as normal – links to funding websites can be found under ‘Not From England?’ at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

If you qualify for a bursary from the NHS you will still be entitled to apply for a partial maintenance loan in the normal way:

www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance

If you are not entering an NHS-funded year, apply to your usual awarding authority as described in the sections above.

The NHS application process usually opens later than student loans applications.  NHS-funded students will be invited to apply when the time is right.  You should then submit your application as soon as possible – see the NHS funding website for full information: http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/Students.aspx.

If you believe that you should be entitled to NHS funding, but have not been invited to apply by the middle of June 2011, please contact the School of Medicine to ensure your details have been correctly submitted
