The Free Legal Advice Clinic

The Clinic is currently closed and will reopen in the last week of October 2012. It will then be opened from 3-5pm every Wednesday during term time. The service is only available to Universtiy of Leicester students and staff.

About the Clinic

The concept of pro bono work is a country wide initiative with the intention of providing free and impartial legal advice to those in need. The University of Leicester Pro Bono Group has been successfully providing legal advice free of charge to students and employees of the University for many years. The clinic at University of Leicester is unique as we offer the only legal advice clinic in the country which is completely run by students.

The clinic is committed to providing helpful and accurate advice to our clients and, in reaching this aim, our advisors receive training of the highest standards and only dedicated students are selected for this prestigious role. Although it is ensured that our advisors are competent, all sessions are supervised by legal academics and professors, further enhancing the possibility of solving each of our clients’ problems.

In the event that a client presents a problem which does not fall within one of our areas of competence our advisors will make a referral to a local solicitor specialising in the area of law concerned.

Areas of Advice

The clinic provides legal advice in several areas of law which we believe may prove to be relevant for our potential clients. These areas are:

Employment Law

Landlord and Tenant Law

If you think your problem does not fit under one of these headings you can still come and see us- we may still be able to advise you or refer you to people who can.

The clinic cannot advise on actions against the University of Leicester, including the Student’s Union and the Halls of Residences

Appointments and Opening Hours

The clinic is closed until the last week of October 2012.
