Discretionery Funding: Charities

Students who have exhausted all the funding that they are entitled to but are still struggling to manage are sometimes successful in applying to charitable organisations for additional assistance.

We have put together a list of charities that will consider student applications and grouped them by the type of assistance they give.  Follow the links below to find out more about the support available and whether you meet the criteria to apply.

Application Process

When applying to charities you are advised to consider the criteria carefully as organisations often have very limited funding and will not consider applications unless they meet their specific criteria.  Some have trustees who meet very infrequently and unsuccessful applicants often do not receive a response.

The list below is not exhaustive.  Your are also encouraged to approach your local reference library which is likely to hold more directories of grant-making organisations.
