Peter Hough

Peter joined the Student Welfare Service in November 2009.  A University of Leicester graduate, Peter has a first degree in Modern Languages, specialising in French and Spanish.  He maintains his language skills by taking frequent trips to Europe; he has lived and worked in both France and Spain and taught EFL, ESOL and Modern Languages to GCSE level both in the UK and abroad.

Before returning to the University to take up the post of Welfare Officer (International), Peter spent five years working at South Leicestershire College as Senior International Officer.  He led on obtaining the College's Tier 4 Sponsor Licence under the Points Based System and was Key Contact and the College's sole Level 1 User of the Sponsor Management System.

Peter has a keen interest in the wellbeing of international students.  He acknowledges the immigration challenges which many students face when extending their leave to remain in the UK and has undertaken extensive training including the UKCISA / University of Nottingham Certificate for International Education Professionals for which he received the annual Steve Sharples Memorial Prize in 2012.

During his professional career Peter has obtained various supplementary qualifications in computing, teaching and staff management.
