Profile:
Julie is our Senior Welfare Officer; her primary responsibility is as a Student Finance Adviser providing financial advice and support for home and EU students. She leads a team consisting of Adrian Gascoigne, James Pooley, and Christine Dovey. The aim of this team is to assist students in effectively managing their finances; this is largely achieved by helping them to access all relevant sources of funding, enabling them to access and remain in higher education. The Student Welfare Service provides information and advice about the University of Leicester’s Access to Learning Fund, other hardship funds, Charities and Trusts, state benefits and budgeting.
Julie also works closely with and deputises for our Head of Service, Clare Taylor, to support all aspects of students' pastoral care, including responding to emergency situations.
Julie graduated from the University of Leicester in 1997 with a BSc degree in Psychology. Following a period of voluntary work in general advice settings she took up her first post in Student Welfare at Leicester College in 1998. She was appointed Student Welfare Officer (Finance) at the University of Leicester in 2003 and subsequently Senior Welfare Officer in 2007. She is a member of NASMA (National Association of Student Money Advisers). Relevant qualifications include Certificate in Advice Work (1997) and NVQ4 in Advice and Guidance (1999).
