We work in partnership with other local agencies such as Connexions, Aimhigher, the Way Ahead group and the other local universities to offer support, activities and advice for young people in care and their supporters.
The University holds the Frank Buttle Trust Quality Mark for Care Leavers in Higher Education and is committed to students from care backgrounds entering and achieving success in Higher Education.
Our annual two-day non-residential ‘Higher Education Experience’ Summer School in early July aims to give students a realistic and enjoyable taste of university life.
Activities include:
- Crime Scene Investigation
- Sports Psychology and Physiology
- Music Technology
- An Engineering Challenge
- Textile Science
With the opportunity to see the three local universities all in one event and to work with current Student Mentors and staff, previous participants have said the event boosted their confidence and helped them to focus on future options.
