About the Research Support Office
The Research Support Office is part of the Student and Academic Services Division at the University of Leicester. We provide support to research activity across all disciplines at the University, including support for grant applications and awards (public sector, EU and charity), supporting University-wide preparations for the REF and provision of research-related management information. We work closely with colleagues in Enterprise and Business Development who provide support for the University's commercial activities.
Our work is split across a number of core activities:
Research development
Working with colleagues across the University to identify funding opportunities and bring together interdisciplinary groups of researchers with common interests; dissemination of funding information and training in applying for grants.
Strategy support and implementation
Including co-ordination of activities in preparation for the REF and of new management information software project. Provision of management information including financial returns and planning information. Support for the annual research income planning round. Secretariat for University Research Policy Committee and College Research Committees.
Research grants and contracts
Provision of advice on costing and submission of grant applications and University authorisation for submission. Responsibility for negotiating contract terms with funders and collaboration agreements with other HEIs and public sector collaborators.
Post-award finance
Provision of post-award financial administration of externally funded research projects. Responsibility for submitting invoices, claims and statements of expenditure.
