The Guardian places Leicester among UK best for fifth consecutive year

Issued by University of Leicester Press Office on 22 May 2012

The University of Leicester has been placed in the top 20 UK universities out of 120 institutions  for the fifth year running by The Guardian’s Universities League Table.

This adds to a top 20 finish for Leicester in The Complete University Guide published last month.

In the table published yesterday, Leicester is placed 19th and nine of departments are in the top ten of their respective categories:

Richard Taylor, Director of Corporate Affairs and Planning said: “Although imperfect, university league tables can be helpful in helping students decide where to study. It is therefore pleasing to see the University of Leicester consistently ranked amongst the best in the country”.

The University of Leicester is ranked in the top 2% of universities in the world by both the QS World University Rankings 2011Taiwan World University Rankings and THE World University Rankings.

The University has won Times Higher Awards in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and most recently in 2011 for its work in innovation and technology. It is the only university to win five consecutive awards.
