University joins the Big Spring Clean
Issued by Leicester City Council on 15 May 2012
STUDENTS from the University of Leicester are backing the city council's Big Spring Clean campaign this week.
On Wednesday (May 16), student volunteers will be out in force to clear litter from the university campus and neighbouring Victoria Park. They will be joined by city council parks and street cleaning staff.
The event begins at 12noon and will last around two hours.
Cllr Sarah Russell, Assistant City Mayor responsible for neighbourhood services, said: "This is a great example of what the Big Spring is all about. It encourages people to take pride in the areas of the city where they live and work, and to play a part in keeping looking their best for everyone's benefit."
Ellen Holmes, of the University of Leicester's environment team, said: "Victoria Park is very popular amongst University of Leicester students and this a fantastic opportunity for them to give something back to the community and make a positive difference to an area that they enjoy."
Leicester City Council's Big Spring Clean is an eight-week campaign of environmental clean-up events across the city in which people can take part. For more information visit www.leicester.gov.uk/bigspringclean
