League tables
There are various UK and international league tables that rank universities. In spite of widespread concerns about the various methodologies used in their compilation these league tables have become particularly important in informing student choice.
HESA performance indicators
The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) publishes a set of performance indicators for all UK higher education institutions in April and July each year. The indicators are based on student, staff and finance data returns all higher education institutions are required to make to HESA each year and cover:
- widening participation indicators
- non-continuation rates (including projected outcomes)
- module completion rates
- research output
- employment of graduates.
Surveys
Various surveys are carried out, both on a regular and ad hoc basis, which provide feedback to the University about our performance. One of the more important examples is the National Student Survey in which Leicester has consistently scored highly.
