Postgraduate Taught communications

To support campus-based PGT recruitment, the MyLeicester web portal was rolled out to enquirers and applicants in May 2011. MyLeicester allows prospective students to access information about studying at Leicester based on their interests. The portal is a step change in how we communicate with prospective students as it allows students to access information electronically when and where they want to.

In order to support MyLeicester an outbound e-mail communications plan was also developed to help bring people back to the portal. The main aim of the plan is to convert a greater number of PGT enquirers into applicants and subsequently into enrolled students. The communications plan has been created to build a relationship between prospective students, the university and individual departments. Each of the communications sent to students has a clear ‘call to action’ to move students through the recruitment journey.

The aim of the communications plan is to move enquirers through the recruitment process through a series of e-based communications (based on the subject level of interest). In the medium to long term this will be further enhanced through the introduction of ‘MyApplication’ functionality. This new and innovative service will allow PGT applicants to view the status of their application and to respond to offers thereby making the recruitment process more transparent and efficient from a student perspective.

How departments can work with us on the communications plan

We recognise that in order for the portal and e-communications to be effective they need to be customised based on the interests of prospective students. We would therefore welcome comments from departments on how some of these communications can be further refined.

MyLeicester has not been designed to replace the two-way dialogue and relationship building activity that already takes place and which your department may already be engaged in – it aims to supplement this and dovetail any communications that colleagues in departments may already send.

If you would like to review or discuss how we can further customise the portal content or outbound email communications please contact Imran Awan ia70@le.ac.uk or Remy Clarke rlc28@le.ac.uk for more information.
