The conference will be opened on Tuesday 4th July 2017 by Colin Bryson, a leading UK expert on student engagement. He will be delivering the opening keynote address with colleague Ruth Furlonger.

Book onto a presentation or poster workshop

This two-day conference will provide colleagues with opportunities to:

  • share practice around teaching and learning development activities, approaches, and initiatives, and;
  • disseminate and discuss pedagogic research activities.

Conference themes

The overarching themes of the conference are:

  • Belonging and resilience
  • Retention and progression
  • Partnership in learning

The conference aims to be as inclusive as possible of themes relevant to the University and the teaching, learning and assessment practices of staff.  As such, these overarching themes can incorporate a broad range of sub-themes, for example:

Belonging and resilience: personal tutoring, distance learning, equality and diversity, supporting international students, mature students, etc.

Retention and progression: student community building, enhancing communication with students, student life cycle, use of the VLE, students who commute, etc.

Partnership in learning: students as partners, professional services staff and teaching staff working in partnership, experiences of and supporting GTAs/PGRs who teach, etc.

Proposals are invited for:

  • Posters
  • Nano-presentations (10 minute presentations showcasing teaching developments, activities, initiatives, etc.)
  • Pedagogic research presentations (20 minutes)

Closing date for proposal submissions is Friday 5th May 2017.

Proposals are particularly welcomed from those new to sharing their teaching practices and/or engaging in pedagogic research.

Poster and presentations workshops

The following workshops will also be running before the conference to provide additional support:

  • Designing and presenting posters - Wednesday 31st May 2017, 2:00pm-3:30pm.
  • Giving effective pedagogic research presentations - Monday 5th June 2017, 2:00pm-4:00pm.
