Responsibilities/biography

Dr Lynnette Matthews is responsible for leading and developing initial and continuing professional development programmes and awards for academic staff to enhance student learning.   She developed the University’s Professional Educational Excellence Recognition Scheme (PEERS) and was responsible for it securing University approval and Higher Education Academy accreditation.  Lynnette is currently the Director for the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic and Professional Practice, which constitutes the PEERS Programme Route, and is the PEERS Co-Ordinator for the Experiential Route.

Lynnette has a portfolio of strategic leadership, design and delivery of initial and continuing professional development programmes and awards within the University and nationally.  This was recognised by the Higher Education Academy with the award of Principal Fellowship in October 2015.  She was also awarded a Distinguished Teaching Fellowship by the University for her outstanding contribution to the promotion of an effective learning experience for students, and in the support of the development of teaching excellence across the institution.

She has been an active member of the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) since 2008 when she was invited to design a new national award for SEDA’s Professional Development Framework.   She is a SEDA accreditor and a mentor supporting institutions wishing to obtain recognition for programmes in teaching, research and management.  Her external activities also include external examining and she is also invited to sit on accreditation panels for HEA Fellowships for other institutions.

She gained her PhD at the University of Nottingham. This work studied the motivation of newly-qualified teachers working in the post-compulsory sector.
