Jon Gunnell - Senior Project Manager

Jon Gunnell“The suburban surroundings and campus facilities make the University a great place to work.”

I enjoy the variety of projects that I am able to work on, ranging from technical IT projects to ones involving many elements of business change. I also enjoy the diverse and talented range of people that I work with on my projects, from Professional Services and academic staff, to students

After four years of commuting by train to London I knew that I wanted to work closer to home. I still needed a role that would challenge me, but also one which enabled a better work life balance. The opportunity at the University of Leicester came just at the right time!

Following a career break, I wanted new challenges in a different sector; the opportunity to join the University came in 2007. Prior to this I spent 18 years working in the Financial Services sector: Alliance & Leicester, Barclaycard and Barclays in various programme, project and business change manager roles

I enjoy running, cycling and generally keeping fit. Having the choice of two gyms with such excellent facilities is great and I often swim or go to a class before work. It sets me up for the day!

Leicester is a great place to live with a vibrant city centre, local rugby and football teams and within easy reach of a good road and rail network. Leicester is also easy to get around, you don’t have to go far to find green spaces or open countryside. The suburban surroundings and campus facilities make the University a great place to work.
