Virus Protection
What we provide
We provide an anti-virus service based on a site license of Sophos. We provide a fully-configured, pre-installed version of Sophos to PCs on our managed desktop PC service, CFS, and an unconfigured version of Sophos available for use on other university PCs.
What you can expect
If you are using a CFS PC, Sophos will be pre-installed and pre-configured for you. The application will be updated automatically for you periodically. Sophos will be configured to check for updates to your virus identity files hourly from a local repository held at the University of Leicester. If you are using a PC that is not on the CFS service, you will be able to install the Sophos application and configure it to check the local repository for its virus identity file updates. You will need to reinstall Sophos when new versions of the application are made available.
What we expect
The use of this service is subject to University of Leicester Information Security Policy.
We expect you to ensure that any computer you use to access the campus network, or to use any University of Leicester IT service, is free from viruses and running up-to-date virus protection. The easiest way to achieve this is to use a computer on our managed desktop PC service, CFS, where possible.
Service availability
This service is normally available 24/7, but is only supported during working hours. The service is 'at risk' during service at risk times Tuesday morning 7.00am until 9.00am and Thursday evenings 6.30pm until 10.30pm but you will receive advance notice of work during these times likely to affect this service.
