Office Support

IT Services offer Microsoft Office 2007 under the terms of the Campus Agreement license to Student PCs and Staff PCs on the managed desktop, CFS. As part of the Campus Agreement, this software can be installed on any University of Leicester-owned or leased PCs.

IT Services provide a calendar/diary service as part of the Microsoft Exchange 2007 email service. This service is available to all staff and students of the University and allows for scheduling appointments, booking meetings, checking free/busy times of others and sharing calendars with other people.

Email

Data Management/File Storage

IT Services provides file storage on a central Storage Area Network (SAN) for staff and students to save files related to their work, research or study. This file store is replicated to a second location to help ensure its availability and is backed up nightly to protect it from loss.

Security and Data Protection

The Information Security Office within IT Services works to establish, maintain and implement policies and procedures that will help to assure the availability, integrity and confidentiality of information at the University.

Software Licensing

IT Services managed PCs have access to centrally provided mandatory and optional software. The list of software in each category is controlled by the University Software Panel. IT Services negotiates and purchases licences on behalf of this Panel. Any University member of staff can make a request to the Software Panel for the Panel to consider adding the request to these lists.
