Website Production and Support
If you wish to contact us regarding a web page that we maintain, please use the IT Service Desk.
What we provide
Our web team covers three areas:
- Our Web Developers maintain the technical infrastructure for the University’s websites, developing new solutions and providing technical support for our web work.
- Our Information Architects provide help in organising information and structuring university websites to ensure that they are tailored to their intended audiences.
- Our Multimedia Designers provide a visual design service for the web and maintain and develop the University’s online visual identity.
Typically, a designer will work in collaboration with an Information Architect to help customers develop new sites. We also work closely with the Division of Marketing and Communications to offer support in creating written content for university sites.
For University Staff:
What you can expect
With the Plone content management system, creating and maintaining websites no longer requires specialist technical knowledge. Adding content to your site is as easy as writing a document with word processing software. The key skill you require is the ability to communicate clearly and to adapt your communication style for the web. We offer training in web communication and in the use of the Plone CMS. We provide structural and design templates and we can work with you to help you develop your site’s content, structure, imagery and layout.
What we expect
We expect you to plan your web content and develop it to suit your specific audiences. We will work with you by providing guidance but we expect you to take final responsibility for creating your site and for maintaining it after its launch. Each department must have a web maintainer who takes ultimate ownership of departmental web content and acts as a point of contact. University websites must adhere to standards for visual content, structure and ‘tone of voice’ and we will help you to make sure that your site meets these requirements. New sites must be approved by the Web Team before being published.
Service availability
We are available to provide production support 9.00am-5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
Service charges
There is no charge for production support for University websites.
FAQs and related information
You can find information and advice about developing websites at the Web Centre.
We maintain the University Image Library. This is a continually-updated collection of pictures which you can use on your website and also for purposes such as PowerPoint presentations and printed materials.
Design for printed materials is available from Design Services in the Division of Marketing and Communications. We work closely with the Division to ensure unity between print and web designs and to work together to develop the University’s identity in a coordinated manner.
