What you can expect
We aim to fulfil your telephone requirements in a timely and efficient manner. Some requests may take longer than others to fulfil. Please bear with us. This is because it is very much depends on the availability of spare extension numbers, the availability of telephone cabling in the new location, or even the type of telephone technology already in place in the required office or building.
What we expect
Requests for additional telephones or changes to existing telephone (moves, new features etc) need to be submitted via your departmental authorised requestor (DITC). For some requests such as a new extension or additional service such as voicemail, there will be a charge so you will need to ensure you have relevant budget code to cover this. For new extensions could you please provide as much notice as possible – don’t leave it to the last minute because some requests may require the installation of cabling or the purchase of new equipment or licences which could add delays.
Service availability
Although the telephone service is available around the clock, faults can only be reported and fixed during normal working hours. Please report any faults to the Switchboard by dialling 0. The switchboard operates Mon – Fri 09:00 – 17:00.
One off charges for new telephone extensions
Providing a new telephone extension will require the purchase and supply of a telephone handset. In most cases this is normally free however there will be charge for the provision of the newer IP Telephony handsets. In addition to this there may be a one off charge of £70 to cover making live the wall socket live (the socket that the telephone plugs into to connect it to the telephone network) if it needs to be made live. IT Services can provide details of any potential costs prior to going ahead with the new request.
Ongoing Service charges
There is a line rental for each telephone extension. This will be cross-charged to your department on a monthly basis along with any call charges associated with the extension number. The monthly line rental for a standard handset is £8.75 per month.
