Quota Information

Registered users of the central computing services are subject to several quotas.

CFS Personal Mail and File Quotas

If you use the CFS service there is a limit to the storage space available for you to save work in your Z: drive (My Documents folder) and a limit to the capacity of your email mailbox. Students, Staff and other groups get different initial quotas and this status also determines how much these quotas can be increased at no cost to your department.

Staff and Research Postgraduates can request further increases above those listed but for this, departments are charged at £1/GB/Month (We can only increase a Z: drive to an upper limit of 5GB).

Your Departmental IT Contact should be able to tell you if this is acceptable and provide you with the necessary charge code.

In the Outlook Folder list right-click on Mailbox -<yourname> at the top of the list, and choose Properties for Mailbox. In the dialog box displayed click on Folder Size... to display a window showing the Total Size of your mailbox. (Divide the KB value by 1000 to work out the MB used.)

Profile Quota for CFS

If you use the CFS service you will have a 'Profile' which also has a quota. Your profile is used to store your personal settings for your CFS work environment. Your profile quota is independent of your Z: drive (My Documents) and mailbox quotas and is set to 12MB. If you have a problem logging off the CFS service due to the size of you profile, see Dealing with profile problems for advice.

Departmental X: Drive Quota

Many departments use the departmental X: drive to share files amongst their staff and, like the Z: drive, space on the X: drive is limited by quota. The default quota for departmental X: drives varies depending on the size of department, between 25GB and 100GB. Additional space can be requested - but this is a chargeable service.
