IT account information
Computing services available at the University of Leicester
Your IT account
Your main IT account is referred to as CFS (Central File Server). This account offers standard access to computing services, including email and file storage.
See Getting Started with CFS for advice when logging into CFS for the first time. For more detailed information about using your CFS account see Using the CFS Service.
You are not permitted to share login details or allow others to use your personal account. Doing so contravenes the Computer Misuse Act 1990, and also compromises the security of your account. Please see our Regulations for IT Users for more information.
Types of User
There are three main categories of user on the system, each with different access rights. Please select one of the links below to find out more:

Timescale for all new requests
You must allow at least 5 working days following receipt from IT Services.
If your request is absolutely urgent (for example - staff member starts tomorrow), please make the request online as normal but call us on x2253 quoting the reference number so that we can assess the request.
Please note that we may not always be able to "bump" the request up the queue.
How will I be notified?
Account details will be supplied via internal mail for all new Staff/Associate CFS accounts (this is not included in the 5-day rule since IT Services are unable to influence the internal mail services), and via email for additional accounts and services. Some requests may require longer than 5 days depending upon factors such as (for example) busy periods and information pending.
