Staff email upgrade 2013
This upgrade has given more space, access to student email addresses in the Global Address List and webmail (Outlook Web App) has been improved.
Exchange is the system which manages and stores all university emails and mailboxes. The previous hardware and software (Exchange 2007) was out of date and there had limited storage space.
Exchange 2007 remains in the old CFS environment - many other services moved to a new IT environment during the Windows 7 upgrade. During the upgrade, email was moved to the new IT environment, which allowed University IT accounts to be created more efficiently.
Since the student email service moved to Office 365 in September 2012, staff have been unable to access student email addresses via the address book and vice versa. With this upgrade the address books can be linked together again.
This project has upgraded Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 and moved it into the new IT environment on upgraded hardware.
Existing emails, calendar appointments and contacts were kept and moved across. We did not change Outlook 2010, the project replaced the system that manages and stores your email.
Remote email access via Outlook Web Access has been upgraded to Outlook Web App and includes more features.
Staff email accounts were upgraded over three weekends between November and December 2013.
