Having three separate devices for printing, copying and scanning from three different suppliers resulted in significant costs to the University. With IT Services now responsible for the management of photocopiers and printer purchasing, services were streamlined with the introduction of a multi-function ‘Smart Printer’. These were rolled out across campus from September 2012 to June 2013. The device allows the user to print copy and scan from the same device, and has made significant cost savings.
University ID card readers were installed on the Smart Printers. This allowed staff and students to log in automatically by scanning their ID card, rather than typing their details in via the keyboard.
If your department has other printers, you will still pay for toners and parts for these.
