What's New?
New and improved features in Internet Explorer v7 (IE7)
What’s different?
When you first use IE7 you will notice that the toolbar displayed at the top is different. The familiar menus are no longer visible and some new features have been introduced:
Toolbar, Menu Bar and New Buttons
The default toolbar displayed by IE7 is similar to the following:
Things to note:
- By default the Menu Bar which provides access to the File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools and Help menus is now hidden.
TIP: You can press the ALT key to view the Menu Bar temporarily, or to turn it on permanently select View | Toolbars | Menu Bar. - The Back and Forward buttons are smaller and have been moved to the left of the Address Bar.
- The Refresh and Stop buttons are smaller and have been moved to the right of the Address Bar.
- The Windows flag icon that appeared in the upper-right corner of Internet Explorer 6 has been removed to make room for the Search Box.
- The Favorites Centre provides access to your list of Favorites, any RSS Feeds you have subscribed to and your History file.
- The Add to Favorites button, which allows you to organise your favorites, is adjacent to the Favorites Centre button.
-
On the right of the toolbar you have access to the following:
Tabbed Browsing
Tabbed browsing has been introduced in IE7 and it allows you to go from one site to another in one window using the tabs at the top of the browser. To add a new tab press Ctrl T or click on the blank tab on the far right:
Take care when closing windows - to close an individual tab select the tab and click the X on the right of the tab, or right-click the tab and choose Close. To close all tabs click the X in the top right corner of Internet Explorer.
If you click the Quick Tabs icon on the toolbar you can see all of the sites in a thumbnail view. You can then click on a thumbnail preview to jump to that page.
Page Zoom
Press Ctrl + to zoom in and Ctrl - to zoom out.
To return quickly to 100%, or to specify a percentage, click the pull-down menu next to the Change Zoom Level button in the bottom right corner of IE7 and choose the % required.
NOTE: Page Zoom is different to increasing the text size (View | Text Size). Increasing the text size retains the page proportions whilst making the font larger and more accessible. Page Zoom magnifies the whole page including any navigation and pictures.
Advanced Printing
To change the page orientation and adjust the margins before printing select File | Page Setup.
To print an extract rather than the whole page select the text to be printed and then select File | Print and choose the Selection option.
