Overhead projectors in central teaching rooms

If you are planning to use an overhead projector (OHP) in the next few weeks, you should inform the Learning & Teaching Room Support Team prior to the session, to ensure that an OHP can be made available for you.

What

A recent series of thefts of OHP mirrors has resulted in fewer useable projectors in central teaching rooms. As a result, staff who would like to use an OHP should contact Learning & Teaching Room Support team on 0116 252 2919.

If you are intending to use an OHP in the next few days, you should check the OHP in the room and report if the mirror is missing (and any other fault) to the Learning & Teaching Room Support team. In this way, we can better keep record of the projectors which require repair or maintenance.

Make the most of Outlook Calendar

Are you using Outlook Calendar to its full potential? Adding things to your calendar can help others see when you’re free. Find out how you can make the most of your calendar.

Staff can use the Outlook Calendar to:

Plan your own appointments and activities

See if your colleagues are available

Plan meetings, send invitations and see who’s accepted

See your team’s appointments (if you’ve been given access)

Even if you don’t have many meetings, adding your holidays to your calendar can help others to know that you’re away. You can also plan your work by adding appointments for the work you intend to do and marking it so that it doesn’t show in your calendar that you’re busy. Once you’ve planned your work you’ll get reminders and can move things round as they change.

Once you start using Calendar, you can access it from home using Outlook Web Access or you can access it through an App on your mobile phone or tablet.

Three ways to start making the most of Outlook Calendar:

Arrange a session for your department or team of 5 - 11 people

Improvements to the IT Service Desk

Significant improvements have been made to the way the IT Service Desk can handle incoming enquiries following the installation of a new contact management system.

Email

You will now receive a confirmation email when you send an email to ithelp@le.ac.uk. This will reassure you that your enquiry has been received and provides information on when the IT Service Desk is open, when your enquiry will be handled.

Phone Callback

Sometimes the IT Service Desk receives a large volume of calls within a short period. From now on when you phone the IT Service Desk, you will be offered the option to be called back if the IT Service Desk is busy at that time.

You will receive this option if you are on hold for over two minutes or immediately if there are five or more calls waiting to be answered. You will be asked to enter your phone number on your telephone keypad. Alternatively, you can continue to hold and your call will be answered as soon as an agent is free.

Web Chat - New!

We are pleased to announce the pilot of the IT Service Desk web chat. Similar to Instant Messaging, you can request a text conversation with one of the IT Service Desk analysts. This is a key benefit to staff and students who work or study abroad. They are now able to interact with IT Service Desk, but avoid costly international phone charges.

Web chat with the IT Service Desk

The future

The new call management system is just one of the benefits of the new phone system, purchased by the University. This project will continue over the next couple of years, to provide new telephones throughout the University and replace old telephone equipment, some of which is over 27 years old.

New telephone system project website

This new call management system also forms a pilot for other departments in the University, who are seeking to manage their email and phone enquires more efficiently.

Feedback

Comprehensive monitoring is provided by the new call management system. This will be used to understand how improvements can be made to the IT Service Desk, as part of a programme to improve the IT support offered to the University.

If you would like to comment on the changes to the IT Service Desk, you can contact the IT Service Desk manager, Jenna Shaw by phone 0116 252 7282 or email: js623@le.ac.uk.

Need IT help?

Contact the IT Service Desk on 0116 252 2253 or via email at ithelp@le.ac.uk. Please make urgent queries by telephone.
