Software for the Windows 7 Service - Feedback requested
During 2012 most PCs across campus will be upgraded to Windows 7. This upgrade brings with it an opportunity to upgrade University centrally provided software and to retire some software that won’t work with Windows 7 or has very low usage.
IT Services has undertaken a review of this software and after consulting other IT professionals across the University a draft list of software for the Windows 7 service has been drawn up. It is important for all staff to check through this list to ensure that the software they expect to be available centrally is present, and at the version that they require. This is particularly important for Teachers, who may have to consider revising their course materials for next academic year, and for Researchers, who may or may not wish to upgrade the software they use.
- Software proposed for the Windows 7 Service
- Software on CFS that is proposed not to be moved the Windows 7 Service
If you find software on the list that you feel is inappropriate, let us know by completing the feedback form.
Provide your feedback by 3 February 2012
Important notes:
- Where a later version of the software proposed is available this is indicated.
- In many cases, requests for upgrading software will require departmental funding.
- Requests for software installation recently submitted to the Software Panel may not be included on this list as these are awaiting approval.
- Suggestions for an alternative web browser are currently under consideration so feedback on this is not required.
- If you find software you use is not on the list, please check to see if it’s on the list that is proposed not to be available on the Windows 7 Service. If it is please feedback as above, if it isn’t then the software is installed locally on your CFS PC and so feedback is not required.
